The Ladies’ Memorial Association of Montgomery
Organized April 16, 1866 – Organizers: Sophie Gilmer Bibb and Mary Anne Harris Phelan called a meeting at the Court Street Methodist Church (where the Federal Post Office was built currently the Federal Court House). Organized as “The Ladies’ Society for the Burial of Deceased Alabama Soldiers”. The name was later changed to The Ladies’ Memorial Association of Montgomery.
